f you're up for it, I want to disclose some eye-opening and quite disturbing information to you about single and double bass drum technique... and why so many drummers are actually practicing things that can do more damage than good to their overall technique and musicianship. It's a sad reality, but I think it's something you should hear. Are you okay with that? Okay...
Now you may not be aware of it yet, but there is a special bass drum technique that many of today's top professional drummers are using to enable them to play their bass drum pedals with more speed, power, and control (yes, both single and double bass pedal setups).
This unique method is revolutionary in that it is actually no more difficult to play than basic bass drum techniques, but it actually enables you to play twice as fast... and ultimately play patterns that just cannot be reproduced with basic methods (no matter how much you practice)!
This Is Going To Disturb You...
You may have been told that - "practice makes perfect" ... or perhaps have even heard me clarify in the past that "practicing right makes perfect" ... but in this particular situation - it goes much deeper than that.
You see - the method I am discussing here is actually easier to teach to someone that has never played the drums in their life. I say "used to be shocked" because I have now come to the realization that it is actually harder to teach my private drum students that have already spent years playing drums without this method.
So, today's lesson is... "practicing the right technique the right way - makes perfect". How's that for a mouthful? Well... it may not be a slick catchy phrase - but it truly applies to this situation!
Don't get me wrong - this technique can definitely be learned by any drummer. However, it is in your best interest to begin implementing this into your everyday playing as soon as possible! Every minute you spend practicing other techniques can potentially hamper your ability to learn and apply this revolutionary method in the future.
Why don't more drummers use this method?
I think we have all been trained growing up to believe that "the right way is the way it's always been done" - and thus we have a hard time believing something better actually exists.
But more than that - most drummers just plain haven't heard of this bass pedal technique before, and drum instructors aren't teaching it because they themselves haven't been taught it.

...was very easy to learn and understand, and that impressed me a lot!
I really liked that he did the lessons slow as possible so that you could understand what he was saying, and because he took it slow, it was easy to follow along with. Another thing, which is the best thing about the video, is the foot cam and the foot cam with the slow motion.
I can't stress enough how much that help me. The fact that the actual foot motion on the bass pedal, when shown with a slow-motion camera, was very easy to learn and understand, and that impressed me a lot!
It has improved my drumming drastically. The most obvious improvement is bass pedal speed. The thing that I'm most happy with, is to play a regular bass beat, but be able to throw in a double hit here and there and it sounds so good. Good work! Thank you!

I used to be right foot dominant, but now I'm learning to be right and left foot dominant...
I like the camera angles that show exactly what Jared is doing. I also like the way the video is slowed to 25%, 50%, and 75% speed. The audio portions are clean and clear, making it easy to hear.

I was totally impressed how fast you can play the bass drum with the use of a simple technique...
The use of the slow motion to teach the double stroke on the bass drum pedal was extremely useful. Jared's explaination of the technique was clear and simple and allowed me to understand how to accomplish the technique.
I liked hearing what can be done utilizing the bass drum more often in playing drum beats. I was totally impressed how fast you can play the bass drum with the use of a simple technique and a little woodsheding.
I've found that I don't worry about the bass drum being the weakest part of my playing anymore. I'm able to incorporate the bass drum in more of my fills and I can play some drum beats with little or no trouble that I had trouble doing before.

I have been playing drums for over 20 years and have been to many teachers for lessons, and have struggled to get any speed with my feet. I have been shown every technique known to man, but I have worked through your dvd and I can't believe how fast my feet are playing.
I am playing doubles with my feet nearly as fast as my hands, also the one handed roll is starting to flow very smoothly. I have also studied jazz for a while, and the way you teach is very good the dvd is very informative and easy to follow, when a lot of drummers are put off by playing jazz by the shear complexity of the rythmns and the music, this is a good starting point for any one wanting to take up jazz.
I have purchaced loads of dvd's over the years. Alot of the musicians are keen to show you all there fills, but don't really show you the techniques to master these. I'll just say that these are the most informative dvd's I have watched in years.
